A Miami Ad School project.
Cancer Society of America was looking for a way to reach Millennials that would engage them to donate to cancer research and simultaneously kick-off a conversation across social media.
Our solution: Cancer Invaders
We revived and redesigned old arcade games to "gamify" fighting cancer. Our flagship game, Cancer Invaders, would be sold as an app with all proceeds going towards cancer research.
Players could continue playing with in-app purchases where they could "buy a life to save another". All proceeds from in-app purchases would also go to cancer research.
Out flagship app would be "Cancer Invaders", a reboot of the classic "Space Invaders" game. Users could buy the app for $2.99 on any app store, with all proceeds benefitting cancer research.
Players battle cancer cells with their special ship, gaining trophies and power-ups along the way. Players will be given a weekly upload of lives to continue playing, or they can "purchase lives to save a life" in-app, with all proceeds going to cancer research.
We'll also place playable arcade machines in public places across the country. These machines would be connected to each other so players could view their position on a global leader board. The machines cost .50 cents to play, with all proceeds benefitting cancer research.
To ignite the conversation further, we'd partner with the streaming website Twitch to broadcast a live Cancer invaders tournament. Viewers of the tournament would also be able to purchase digital raffle tickets for a chance to win 1 of 10 Cancer Invaders arcade machines.
